Interested or Invested
May 11, 2021
The Philadelphia Eagles coach in 2019, Doug Pederson, has been known to ask his players:
‘ Are you interested or are you invested? ‘
Doug Pederson
What a great question that is, wouldn’t you agree? It’s a question Limitless Leaders would like an answer to from all their team members, no?
Let’s break down both elements individually to better understand why this question is an essential tool in the Limitless Leaders tookit.
What makes a person interested? When you are interested you are curious. You decide that you want to learn more. You are in the 'inquiring minds want to know' state. Let's take the purchase of the car as an example. When you are interested in buying a car, you are seeking for information, looking to test drive, analyze the pros and cons. You are looking from the outside in.
What makes a person invested? When you are invested, you are past curious. You have put in the hours, the effort, the work. You are no longer inquiring for information, you are looking for results. You are looking for your return on investment (ROI). If the results are not there, you double down. You pour yourself into it some more. In this case you bought the car. You wash it every other day. You keep the inside spic and span clean. You detail it twice a year. Once you are invested, you look from the insde out.
That is why the Limitless Leader should ask themselves if the members in the team are interested or invested. They should also ensure they determine the same for the new team members they are recruiting.
Invested means a team of people who are bought into the vision. Teammates that will step up to the plate, pour in the extra effort, go the extra mile, take full accountability, serve to achieve the purpose, look to learn and grow. Invested means surrounding yourself with a team of Limitless Leaders.
If interesting, please like. If valuable, please share.
Mahalo for being part of the Journey!!!
