Mirrors, windows and doors
Apr 29, 2021
Ryan Holiday shared this little excerpt:
If you look for mirrors, you’ll only see yourself. Instead, we need to look for windows and doors. We want to learn from other people’s experiences. We want to see the world through their eyes…and see ourselves and our destiny a bit more clearly as a result.
Ryan Holiday (excerpt from newsletter)
This resonated with me intensely. In our culture of self expression and selfies, our need to be seen and our attempts to be noticed. Why don’t you notice me. I am here. I am asian. I am black. I am a man. I am a woman. I am.
In this race to be us, we forget to see from the others’ perspective. Stephen Covey said it best:
Seek to understand, before being understood.
Stephen R. Covey
Once again, there is that principle of being The Eternal Apprentice. Seek to understand. Being curious about the other person. Wanting to learn from their experiences. That is an essential trait for The Limitless Leader. Within the challenges, within the obstacles, The Limitless Leader strives to find that window or that door of opportunity. In order to serve, they take the time to see themselves through the eyes of the other. And by doing that, The Limitless Leader understands their destiny more clearly like Ryan suggests.
I want to share with you such a Limitless Leader. One who, amidst the obstacle of cancer and this pandemic limiting access to visitors, literally found the window.
See for yourself:
There is no obstacle too high, no challenges too hard if the Limitless Leader continuously looks more for the windows and the doors and less in the mirror. And in doing so, enjoy the Journey, for it is short in the scheme of everything.
If interesting, please like. If valuable, please share.
Mahalo for being part of the Journey!!!
