The Limitless Leader must work to maintain the 1st principle of Limitless Leadership

Always Be Learning
mindset of the eternal apprentice

1st Principle of The Limitless Leader

In school we were taught to debate to win. Limitless Leaders know the purpose of debating is to actuall achieve a higher level of solution and not necessarily win.

The father of modern management Peter Drucker shared in his book The Effective Executive the story of Alfred P. Sloan ( President and Chairman of GM )

It was reported that after a long day of meeting, the entire senior executive team had agreed on a course of action with no dissenting opinions.

Sloan then said ( I am sharing how I believed what was said based on the story reported, please allow me some creative license in this case ):

“OK. Since we have no dissenting opinions on this course, we will adjourn for today. And perhaps, the night will bring us counsel to identify what could go wrong with our course of action.”

In doing this, Sloan created what I call accretive tension. The Limitless Leader knows that no decision is perfect. With every decision or course of action there are the pros and cons. The key is to be able to identify the blind spots and eliminate the confirmation bias.

It is no secret that a debate will bring conflict. I was taught to avoid conflict growing up. However  I have learned in my Limitless Leader’s journey that conflict is an essential element to growing an organization. You just have to manage conflict efficiently.

Inspired by Dr. Stephen Kalaluhi’s work on this, we have created a formula which I put into practice every time I am faced with a conflict.

SAC - E2 + P + C = EG

SAC = Shared Aligned Commitment

E      = Emotions

E     = Ego

P    = Passion

C   = Communication

EG = Exponential Growth

We created a workshop to share the application of this formula and this blog would be too long to share it here. But you should be able to see the intention for the application. If you would like more details, you can always private message me on LinkedIn profile.

If interesting, please like. If valuable, please share.

Mahalo for being part of the Journey!!!
